Downgrading New Cisco Device

Hello Experts,

I previously put a question in about our devices here if it's needed for reference:
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28987392/Cisco-ASDM-migration.html

I entered everything manually but there are sections that exist on our older one  that do not exist on our newer one.  In addition to this with the our older device getting older and reaching end of support life, I am really worried that we do not have a back up for it.  The end goal is to make the 5510 our new firewall and decommission the other one.

My question:
How can I downgrade the software on the 5515 to match the one on the 5510?  Restore a back up of our current config onto it and then upgrade the new device to current.  Won't that convert a lot of our config for us?

I thought i remember that I cannot restore a back up with our current config  on the 5510 to the current version on the new 5515, is that true?

Are there any resources that can show me how to do this?

You can't your 5510 is running 8.2 that pre dates the 5515 I'm afraid, you would need to upgrade the 5510 (which you might not be able to do if you don't have enough RAM See the following post;
ASA – Memory Error (Post upgrade to version 8.3)

I've actually got exactly the same job to do for a client this week, I'm going to upgrade their 5510 to 8.3 than update it to 9.1, from there I can migrate the config into the clients new 5515-X (luckily Ive got a spare 5510 so I can keep the original firewall in case anything stops working.)

We don't have a additional 5510 and I am almost certain we are not going to have enough RAM for that upgrade....

I'm not sure how to replace this firewall, if I had a additional 5510 to test that would be amazing.  I'm not sure how to get the 5510 config onto the 5515.
What did you do about the memory error?  We might be able to purchase a second 5510 to do this upgrade on to get the config to the new one, but the models I am looking at all have 256mb?
You don't need an extra firewall. Im just lucky.

You can either  - bite the bullet and convert the config manually  - or put some memory in the ASA upgrade it them migrate the config to the new firewall - You can get the memory on Ebay very cheap DONT buy it from Cisco they will have you eyes out.

I think I paid about $6 for a memory chip for my old 5510
