Business Phone System Backup
I am curious if there may be a better phone system backup strategy other than what I am currently doing. My current backup involves rerouting the main number to a series of cell phones that are configured in a chain (no answer/busy forwarding enabled on each)
I have noticed there are some online phone system backup solutions. In the event that our onsite phone system goes offline for whatever reason, I need a solution that is cloud based, and does not require any local hardware other than a computer with internet access. It would need to be able to accept at a minimum two telephone numbers that would be forwarded. Does anyone know of any service that could handle this?
Thanks in advance!

I'd recommend getting a couple metered stations with 8x8, so you're not paying for unlimited usage on phones you're not using.
As referenced, the options available to you depend highly on the pbx capabilities that you use.
I.e. The current pbx is using old pots lines, isdn bri or PRI type feed, does the pbx support sip trunks?
Using the capabilities of the pbx, you would deal with vendor related issues. To deal with pbx related issue, I.e. The pbx fails, ..
Without knowing your current environment, it is difficult to suggest a specific option.
To Mike's suggestion, VoIP providers such as 8x8 ringcentral, etc could also provide soft-phones running on PC X-counterpath
But that would require that your internet connection ...
Or use a soft-phone on a smart phone......
Consuming data on the smartphone ......
Repeating myself, you shoukd layout what you have, identifying potential faults, and then identifying potential counter to mitigate/remedy those...

A 2 user license through RingCentral turned out to be the best solution. I could configure a hunt groups, and users as needed. And the solution was under $100 / month. And I am able to log in and take calls on a cell phone or computer with a microphone.
Thanks!

Is there a service on the market for something like this that I could test out?
