Hot swap or not hot swap the Hyper-V Storage Spaces disks ?

I have a Storage Spaces in two-way mirrors. I understand it should be able to sustain at most one single disk failure. My question is, once I identify the failed hard drive, can I simply unplug the failed hard disk and plug in the good hard disk without shutting down the server as I usually do on a hardware RAID1?  If not, what procedures do I need to do? Thanks in advance.

There is a procedure for replacing a failed disk in Storage Spaces that depends on the Server OS version. What version?

Storage Spaces will rebuild the failed disk into free space in the Storage Pool so long as there is enough room. IIRC, that's #GB/TB of lost disk + ~100GB. But to do so, we need to run the following PowerShell command:

Set-StoragePool -FriendlyName "Storage Pool 1" -RetireMissingPhysicalDisks Always

Change the name of the Storage Pool as required.

The TechNet article for working with disks is here.

Thanks for the reply. My hyper-v is on 2012r2.
Okay, run the PowerShell step to allow automatic rebuilds into free Storage Pool space.

Follow the linked instructions to retire a defective drive. The procedure should be followed step-by-step.

There is no "hot-swap" in Storage Spaces per se. That's a hardware backplane and RAID feature specifically.
