Can't restore iPhone backup after upgrade to IOS11. How can i recover?

I've juste installed IOS11 on my iphone 5s.   After reboot, it blanked my iphone.  No more picture, no more phone contacts, nothing!
So i wanted to restore a backup, but no matter which password i'm using, it keep saying that the password is incorrect.
I've tried:
  • The password to unlock the phone (the old one, with 4 digits)
  • The password to unlock the phone (the new one, with 6 digits)
  • My Apple ID password

The backup seems to done automatically Before the upgrade to IOS11, but it never asked for a password.

Anyone can help about this?   Which password do i have to provide!?  Is there any other password than the 3 i've mentionned above?  I'm not the kind of guy who don't remember his password.

Thanks

Thanks

If your backup is through iTunes / Apple iCloud then you need to use your Apple ID and Password (both, not just password). You may need to contact Apple Support if the Apple ID does not work.

I updated from IOS 10 to 11 with no issues on both phones here.

Tried a simple restore (thought it would come back to IOS10 and maybe solve the problem).   It failed, saying there was a problem.  So it reinstalled IOS11.

Then once it boot, it give some choices "Create a new iPhone" and "Restore from a backup".  I've tried restore from a backup, not working either.

Just found out  that the "Apps" are not in iTunes anymore.  So i don't know how to get back the Apps i've paid.
I'll give it a try Jackie

Everything I have (much) is all running on IOS 11.0.3 . I do know there remain older apps needing upgrades (and I agree with you here).  But lot's of apps are now compatible.

We still have to re-download them. Apps are gone from iTunes and not backed up there.
I wish i could say "I'm going to test your solution" Jackie, but i can't anymore.

A new backup seems to be done at 14:06 (with IOS11).  Thanks to Apple, they seems to keep 1 backup per device.   Pretty useful.   That mean i've lost everything.

I kept saying that it was my last Apple device and i think i'll get an Android this afternoon.   Having to reinstall everything, not going to do that twice.

"I kept saying that it was my last Apple device and i think i'll get an Android this afternoon."

Going to Android will be an interesting adventure and you might never purchase an app again. However, data loss from user's error is still common even for experts.

I have just accidentally made a factory reset my SONY Xperia Z2 last month when I fixed it and has lost WhatsApp chat logs of the latest two months.

Backup is essential for all devices and iOS is a better ecosystem if you think about backup.
Have you made progress to your data recovery?
I've went to  Previous Versions tab from Properties option.  it says "There are no previous version available".   But within this folder, i see a bunch of ... "GUID Look like" folders.  But everything in them seems encoded, and its probably a backup of every device i've got, but only the last backup done.

As for Android, i've a Galaxy Tab S2, and never really had any problem with it, yet.

I've reinstalled everything on my iPhone, but i'm just pissed off because i've lost a bunch of data i've gathered.  I guess i'll never rely on Apple storage anymore.  I'll probably drop everything on my google drive, and try to find a way to encrypt all what i have.

Seriously, Apple:
  • Should ask for a password if it need to be encrypted.  I've tried every single password i had, nothing work.
  • Or simply should ask "Do you want to encrypt your data with a password?".  It's your darn computer after all, not an Obscure Online Storage!
  • Should keep at least 5 last backups, and maybe keep those really important one made prior upgrade
I think you got caught up in the changes Apple has made with respect to Apps. I am not sure what happened in your upgrade. I did 2 without issue and then .1 , .2  and .3 versions as well. But I have to upgrade Apps on the phone now.
Maybe.  I didn't bought a lot of apps on it, just 8player and few other things.  Nothing important.  The important thing was everything within my Codebook app (encrypted notes).  I'll look for Boxcryptor if it allow me to encrypt on cloud storage like Google Drive.

I won't upgrade this device anymore anyway.  Each new upgrade bring a bunch of bunch. It was finally working properly with IOS10, and bam!  Now when i type something on the keyboard, it lag as hell.  I type at least 10 time faster that my iphone can process now (no exageration at all!)  I know my keyboard very well, and i keep typing even if my iphone can't cope with it... and if i stop, everything i've typed 10 seconds ago start to appear!  But that's not the subject of this thread so i'll open another one if i can't find solution on google.
Thanks for the update and good luck perhaps with a new device.
