VMware snapshot perf impact to VM

So I have read lots of articles about vm snapshots best practice as they have impact on performance. What I am not clear on is if I drill into my VM and look at the memory and cpu will I see and increase in the VM or is this all outside the vm on the actual host that it is busy?

and secondly when I am consildating a snapshot will my vm slow down

Yes.

Host and VM will be busy.

The datastore, storage I/O will be high, and hence IOPS will be reduced in the VM, e.g. reading and writing to disk

Is there any way of knowing how long snap shot will take to commit.
