Windows 2008 and error 4201

Hi,
I am using Windows 2008 R2 Standard. No Active Directory.
DNS service it is not working anymore.
I am unable to start it, I get error: "error 1717 unknown interface".
I tried to view Event viewer, but it is stopped, and I am unable to start it, too: "Error code: 4201 - The instance name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI data provider"
Any suggestion? Thank you very much

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello,

Could you check if your folder "C:\Windows\System32\Winevt\Logs" have "read only" permission ? If yes, uncheck the box option et try to restart DNS console.

If it don't work, try to change permissions in the %SystemRoot%\System32\winevt folder. Right-click the folder (winevt) go to "Properties". Un-check the "ReadOnly" checkbox. Click "Apply" or "OK".

Hi, in both cases, I removed "read only" permission, but after checking, it restored itself automatically.
I am still unable to start DNS service and / or Event logger

Thank you
