Try resetting the printer to factory settings, updating the firmware, and also make sure that there are no issues with tray 2. Then uninstall and reinstall the printer in Windows 7.

What application are you using to print PDFs? Is it Acrobat Reader or something else?

both machines printer settings are set the same
Check the printer default settings, from Printer Properties > Advanced tab > Printing Defaults button.

using the adobe pdf reader to open the pdf file. managed to resolve it by unchecking "choose paper  source by pdf page size"
