Managing Cisco Aironet devices

I know they hive together and I believe they create a virtual controller.

Is there special software to manage the 'hive'?

Is there a url and port number to manage them?

Any white papers or child-like walkthroughs would be awesome.

Thanks!

I believe you might be thinking of Cisco Mobility Express. One of the access points assumes the role as controller, and configuration is done centrally on that one. After initial setup it is all handled via a webpage.
Initial setup is done by connecting to a factory defined wireless network.
Generel information here: Cisco Mobility

The software on the access points needs to support Mobility Express.

I huess this depends upon the version of the aironet.

All the devices I have managed have either an autonomous (IOS) OS or a Lighweight OS.  The autonomous ones are managed individually like any other Cisco IOS devices.  The Lightweight (LAP) devices require a controller which is another piece of kit.

I always convert LAP devices into AP devices and avoid using a controller.  Putty, Copy and Paste work well for me.  But then again, I've not had more than 15 on a network.
