Recover e-mails that were moved from Outlook POP to IMAP

I made a huge mistake and am trying to remedy it.

I attempted to copy a large e-mail collection from an Outlook POP account to an Outlook IMAP (Gmail) account, by dragging from one inbox to the other.
A bulk of the e-mails no longer exist on the POP server and just existed in the Outlook PST file.

Outlook stopped responding after a couple of hours so I had to kill it via task manager.
Before restarting the process, I went to Gmail and deleted all of the existing mail to avoid duplicates.
I decided to empty the trash as well to start with a clean slate.
I tried again and Outlook crashed again. I repeated my "clean slate" process.

I decided to try copying only a chunk of e-mails at a time to prevent this. At this time I noticed there was a huge date gap.
It then dawned on me that a move, not a copy, was occurring so I was losing e-mails each time.

Is there anyway that I can somehow recover these e-mails?

As I stated in my question, I emptied the trash. I don't believe there is a way to recover e-mails after emptying the trash. Is there?

A Windows previous version existed for the PST file folder, thank god.
I was able to restore that and pretend my blunder never occurred.

Lesson of the day: always make a backup.
I should know this by now, I've learned the hard way enough times.

I just noticed that CES IT posted my solution before I did and, as such, deserves the points.
