I am having issues with SharePoint online search function.
I have created an "app" for contacts and imported a relatively small .pst of contacts into it. I can search for whole first / last-names but nothing else. I cannot find results from the list in either company field or by searching ton instead of tony.
I am site owner so I don't think it is permissions, they were imported a while ago so should be indexed.
Any ideas!

Under list settings you can enable and disable indexing for the list. Check to make sure that search (indexing) for the list is not disabled.

I really can't find a definitive place to do this under list settings for this list, it is a contact list.

Go to list settings, then under advanced settings, then towards the bottom of the page is a section titled "Search" and you will see the radio buttons to "Allow items from this list to appear in search results?". Select yes or no.
OK I have done that and re indexed, it still has not found things under company, it finds other fields but it is like the company field is not searched. I am going to give it a while to see if it works.

Keep in mind a search crawl has to run from the search server. That is on a schedule so although you enabled the search, it will not appear in search until after the next search crawl. The schedule for a search crawl is something you may not have control over...

This has not made any difference, it has been several days and it will still turn up no results for the company field. It is like the entire company field is excluded from search. This is a standard contact list that was created as a webb app and the data imported from PST. I have also added some entries manually.
