Bootstrap Header with "rolling" pictures

I would like to change the header on www.gopherstateevents.com that is a little more contemporary with 3-5 pix rotating through periodically.   I am hesitant to change too much because my SEO is great, but the look is not good.

Thanks!

Can you explain your requirement a bit more - it is a bit confusing.

Header text / image?

"... with 3-5 pix rotating through periodically" - what does this refer to

How does SEO come into this?

I just want a better looking website.  It is archaic at this point.  However I have great SEO and I am always worried about changing the aesthetics and it having a negative effect on the SEO.
Rather than have a static header I would rather have something like this: http://www.andersonraces.com/

Thanks!

I am not sure how chaning the aesthetics will mess with the SEO - as long as your content is the same and your page load is not affected and you keep the site responsive you should be fine.

Having said that it sounds like you need a Gig for this question - a redesign of a site is not something that is ideal for handling in this type of thread.

Is there a specific question you have?

If you look at your site compared to the reference site your's has a lot more content - good for SEO not so pleasing on the eye - much too busy. I would be wary of prioritizing SEO over user experience. Better to pull 100 people and 50 stay than 400 people and only 40 stay. Based on the reference site you are going for a much cleaner look.

That site uses parallax to achieve that result - jury is out on whether this is a good design move - personally I think it dates quite quickly but that is just me.

Main thing with your site - when I go there I have no idea where to start - every part of the page looks roughly the same there is no eye catcher to engage me and tell me now that I am here why I should stay and have a look around.

Personally, I have promised the various designers I know not to paddle in their pool and they won't try to code - it is a mutually beneficial arrangement - so if you need help on the coding side post back - as far as design goes you might want to find someone who specialises in that area.

Thanks Julian for the feedback.  The site is indeed very busy.  People typically come to my site for one of two reasons...to find their results from a race we just timed, and to see if they would like us to time their event,  While I understand that aesthetics is important (hence this post), it is SEO,  "easy to find" results, and what makes us who we are as a timing company that drives the site.  My goal is to maintain all of that AND enhance the aesthetics.  I will keep plugging away.  Again, thanks for taking the time to respond.
Suggestion
to my opinio the overlay is too dark on the slider images
I would change the top menu color or set it as transparent
Text menu on hover grey on beige is not a good color combination..

You can find very nice and cheap Boostrap template on Themeforest
Most of them have slider and cool effect
