Installing an image as VM in VMware ESXi 5.5

Hello Experts,

Can someone let me know if its possible to install / run an image file on a VM in the same way it's possible to run an Windows ISO image on VM?

The image I have is image_rbt_shm_5_5_1_n5_x86_64.img. The image full description is as follows:

SteelCentral Controller for the SMC 9000, 8650, and Virtual SMC (8551) on ESX
Version 5.5.1 (64-bit)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

So it's possible, but not like an ISO, an ISO can boot a VM or physical computer, and then be installed.

What created the image, because you will need to use the tool, which created the image to restore it to the VM.

Just like if you had a physical computer, you would need to restore it to the physical computer.

Looking at the documentation based on the description of your file, there is an OVA version, which you can IMPORT!

see here

I think that file you have is probably an Upgrade File to use, when you already have the appliance running in ESXi.

Hi Andrew,

I hope is well.

The link you suggested is where I got the image from. However, I don't see an equivalent OVA version that I can import. Can you let me know where about's you see the OVA?
