Pc can’t install updates

If you install updates it refuses to come back on unless you remove the hard drive and put it back In

What could be the issue ?

Removing the hard drive to stop the update process?  I have not seen that.

I suggest you do a Windows 10 Repair Install and Keep Everything. That should reset Windows and not lose anything (back up anyway)

Go to the Media Creation Link

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Windows 10 is running, so click on the Download button (not Upgrade Button, select Open (Run) but NOT Save. Allow the program to run. Allow drivers to update. Then select Keep Everything.

When it says "download" the run in place so that setup can run and start the repair install

Something may be so wrong (remove hard drive to restart) that you may need to backup and install fresh

if so, it seems it lost the drive in the bios as first otion in boot priority -  check that.
also - it can be your bios battery is low, check that too, it should read 3V, and is a CR2032 model in most cases
