how can I preview many pdf files at the same time

I have many pdf files and want to preview like I can with image thumbnails windows file explorer

I dont want to open 12 pdf files in 1 instance adobe reader in 12 tabs and then have to rename files to descriptive names

You can preview PDFs in Windows/File Explorer, but the option is off by default. To turn it on in Adobe Reader, do this:

Edit
Preferences
General

In the Basic Tools section, tick the box shown in the screenshot below:

enable pdf thumbnails in explorer

What is your Windows OS and bit of the OS?

If you are running Windows 7 32 bit, you will be fine with Acrobat reader.
