MDT won't capture after i've added a application.

Hi all,

I've hit a problem capturing a windows 10 image using MDT in a virtual environment (hyper-v). When I test the process by creating a reference image (using all the default settings) the .iso builds fine, syspreps and save the new capture no problems at all.  As soon as I attempt to and any applications (tested using Office 2016 or Chrome) the process runs fine and creates a .wim file only doesn't pass it back to the deployment share.

I've tried several different approaches (silent installs, suspended task sequence, custom capture sequence) to no avail and i'm starting to pull my hair out over this.

From the newly created window 10 instance I have discovered that I can't browse (or cmd net use) the deployment server share (either by unc or ip) but I am able to access other shares on my network. I am able to access the deployment shares from other machines on my network.

Both Windows 10 and MDT are the latest available versions.

Hope someone can help,
Mike

Which appliation is that?
Can you post the error you are geeting
Also post the task sequence
Also what version of windows 10?

MDT Microsoft Deployment Toolbox.

There isn't really an error. The task sequence tumbles through the capture process causing the machine to restart and install the system again. When I try to net use I get the classic...

System error 1792 has occurred.
An attempt was made to logon, but the network logon service was not started.

Thing is when I net use an alternative network share from the reference machine it works fine. Also the deployment share also works fine if I net use from an alternative machine on the network.

Why are you using net use?
Specify the deployment share in custom settings

I've only used net use to try to trouble shot to problem. The share is specified in the custom settings. The only change I've made to the default (and working task sequence) is to attempt to add an application.

Your settings and bootstrap look very similar to mine. Like your naming convention - very smart. :)

what application you are trying to add and how are you doing that

I tried both Office 2016 (using the customisation tool so make it silent and no restart), and Google Chrome msi on a silent install too.  I have realised that I don't have C++ runtimes installed. Maybe it's that making the difference. I'll have ago and update as I go along.

This is the latest attempt. I've removed the applications and instead suspended the process so I can attempt to add Chrome manually.

If I restart the sequence without installing anything it works, however, after installing Chrome it won't capture.

I've been struggling with it for nearly  a week so it has become fairly urgent so anything you can do to help would be great.

Cracked It.

It might have been the missing C++ files, but I also noticed that I missed out a Restart Computer option after installing the application.

Adding both of these has resulted in the reference machine capturing again.

Thanks for your time on this.

I found the problem was that I missed out the VC++ files and issuing a restart the machine instruction in the task sequence after installing applications. Either or both of these solutions fixed it.
