"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In the picture attached ..

Select operator will ask the top operator that do you have a row for me. He then ask the clustered index scan that do you have a row for me ...then clustered index scan will say yes i do have row for you . Then row will flow from clustered index scan to top to select ... This loop will go on till the time we get all the rows. Now in between top will stop the execution as it only needs 1 row. So once he get his required rows, he breaks the loop , then whatever we have with select will be presented to the user.

So basically data is flowing from right to left and logic flows from left to right.
For logical and physical operators please read from my blog - https://msbiskills.com/2015/09/04/sql-server-logical-and-physical-operators/

What are you really trying to understand?
The basics of the Execution Plan or the specific Execution Plan that you posted for your query?
Here are some graphical icons explanations that may help you.
A good help is to pass the cursor over each object in the Execution Plan as it will show more information about what's happening with your query.
