"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You're allowed to have two administrative sessions on Windows Server. If you want to have users use it for applications and remote desktop, you need to install the Remote Desktop Services role. You will need to purchase RD CALs too.

Here's an install guide: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/tommypatterson/2014/02/19/step-by-step-lab-guide-for-building-a-windows-server-2012-r2-remote-desktop-services-environment/

If you purchased then you should have the product key. If you don't, give the vendor a call and get it. But that's just for the license server. You still need to install and configure remote desktop services. Follow the link I gave.

OK, you'll have to talk to whoever is responsible for the server to have them set it up.

The answer you were given is the correct answer. You or someone or the owner of the server must properly configure RDS to do what you want. There is no shortcut  workaround, or legal way to do it another way.

If you don't have the skills to do this yourself, then you need to hire a professional to do it for you.  Like any other service you need done.
