OCR (Optical Character Recognition) App - Export Business Card into Outlook/Exchange Book

Hello Experts,

I need an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) App to scan business card and directly update into outlook/exchange address book.

Thank you very much in advance.

"Easy to use", "good" and "free" are three legs of a software triangle.  You can find products with two of those features, but never all three.  If the ABBYY product works for your application, $29 is reasonable.  It's unlikely you'll find anything that automates the whole process.

Try the trial version of the ABBYY Business Card Reader.  It's not freeware; if it's acceptable, you'll need to buy it to continue using it.

Always remember that business card sizes, colors, layouts and fonts are all over the place and no two are alike.  I'd expect perhaps 85% reliability in software trying to do that job, so there will always be some manual intervention required.

For a small number (less than 100), I'd just do it by hand.  It will take about the same amount of time as scanning, correcting, exporting to CSV files and importing into the target database.

Hi Dr. Klahn,

Thanks for the info.

We are looking for app to simplify the process.
The app should be ease to use and preferable free.
Allow export into .csv format like.
The app will be used by different user and allow export into one centralized place.
Then, the info is exported into Outlook/Exchange directory.

What are the different users scanning with? Desktop scanner? Network shared scanner? Android phone? iPhone?

Hi Mr Joe,

> user will be using mobile phone to scan
> mostly android phone, iOS few

then, both users can export into one centralized place
then, the info is exported into Outlook/Exchange directory which accessible by everyone

Sorry, Panda, I'm not aware of any product that has an Android app, iPhone app, export to a centralized location (presumably in CSV or VCF format for easy use with Outlook/Exchange), and is free. Regards, Joe
