I have purchased a used Q-see Security Recorder system.  How do I get a new password in this system to operate it for its capabilities. I do not have it hooked onto an internet system; just direct with cameras to a monitor.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

When you bought it,
1. Had it reset to factory default? if so, you can go to the official website and obtain the user guide for the relavent model and see whats the default login for your device
2. If it hadn't reset to factory default, did the previous owner/administrator pass you the login credentials? if not do a factory reset and go back to step 1

The only ways this can be done are by (a) knowing the password, or (b) registering the unit in your name at the Q-See web site and starting a password request with Q-See Customer Service.

We see this question several times a month, so there's a FAQ that goes into a little bit more detail and has the necessary links.

Points assigned in order of usefulness and correctness.   Q-See devices do not clear passwords on a "factory reset".
