Sharing an Exchange 2016 Calendar Externally

Previously on our Exchange 2010 server, we had a user that regularly shared his calendar with a friend with a gmail.com account.  In that setup we had a single Exchange 2010 server.  Now in our Exchange 2016 environment we have an Edge server and a Mailbox/CAS server.  On the Mailbox/CAS server we have a Default sharing policy that is attached to the mailbox in question that "should" allow him to share his calendar to any domain.  When the external recipient of the shared calendar clicks on the link to connect him to the calendar, a window pops up announcing that its contacting the server but after a period of time it just disappears.  Is there something to update on our Edge server?  Or something else?

Edge server I believe is not needed in this scenario, as it's only used for SMTP.
