Email delay on exchange server 2013

Hi Team,

I am running exchnage server 2013 the CAS and mailbox roles are running on different servers, i have 2 mailbox and CAS server in PR site and 1 mailbox and 1 CAS server in DR.

recently i have seen users complaining about emails delay, i found that not always, but sometimes there is delay in emails, by 2 to 3 minutes,

hi checked for the event log, to check if there is any logs related to back pressure i checked for event id 15004,15005,15005,15006,15007 on all the servers but cannot find any logs .

what else could cause the email delay?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

First check the message header for the email which were delayed that would give the idea about where it was delayed also you can use mxtoolbox for header analyser

Once you have idea about where it's getting delayed you can check on that device usually it can be because of any third party transport agent or mail scanning or may be server performance if it's on the server else you need to contact the respective team

I assume your mail are relaying from DR sites back to primary site. I have seen this behavior, when AD sites are not set correctly. Best to use scoped connectors, so mails can be relayed locally.

Hi Amit,

yes i feel the same, because in some of the email tracking information i saw the emails getting relayed form DR back to PR, can you shed some more light what does scoped connectors means and what needs to be done.
