Viewing old emails in Gmail

At some point my Gmail account stopped showing all of my emails.  I used to be able to scroll through (or search for) emails from months ago - even if I had several thousand emails since.  Now my Inbox shows my unread emails and just a limit of 50 read emails in the second section.  Where did all my other emails go?  My Outlook still has them all, though sometimes I don't have my Outlook handy.

Thanks,

Phil

The likely thing that happened is that the emails were archived by Outlook and so removed from Gmail. Other than you deleting the email in Gmail, that is the only other explanation.

But my inbox in Outlook has emails going back to May ???
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
If not archived then it is a Gmail issue. Do you have a quota?  Did you set Gmail to delete after some time?  There is not any magic, so there is something set in Gmail to remove emails. Does Gmail archive to another web folder?  You should consider these possibilities

And I tried a search of my inbox ("all mail") and the older, read emails appeared.  So they're somewhere, but I can't just view them in my Inbox.
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
Can you see from the email what folder they have gone into. Is there a subfolder of your Inbox that has them?

if you are using IMAP go to the all Mail folder, all of your mail will be there

Thanks, John.  I'll try to figure out how to reach someone at Google.  This new age seems bound and determined to prevent any human contact ... I couldn't find an answer on their "Help" sites ... but I'll keep trying.

There they are!  Thanks.

David,

At the risk of asking two questions for the price of one, now that I've found my 27,000+ emails, is there a way to delete the bulk of them without having to > over to the end one at a time and then delete each page separately (270 separate deletions)?

Thanks,

Phil

I used a search query before:2015/1/2 and then selected all (unfortunately it only does 100 at a time)
