I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Column width is based on how the dom / CSS is active. Webpart view of a list is build up in a other way. If you want to manipulate the column width you can create a page and alter with css the column width... however this can easy be "broken"  if something on the page changed. In SharePoint online you can use column formating since recently. I hope and expect that will also come to the on prem version of SP2016 in a update.
