What do you guys install on HOME machines for protection?    NOT server or corporate environments...

What do you think of Avast Free version?

Do you purchase anything for clients to use, if so what?

What do you leave on systems for clients?  Thanks!

It depends. For Windows 10, Windows Defender is excellent and one of the best.

For Windows 7 and below, Symantec Small Business (qty 1) and others are very good.

We have had issues (viruses) with Avast free.
The Windows Defender as suggested is pretty decent, but using at least two is best.
Malwarebytes does a decent job too,but it is nagware like so many other freebies asking you to upgrade to the full version.

Windows 10 1709 includes EMET into Windows Defender and makes it a very good product. I have it on a couple of machines and I am not having any issue.

Might be a silly question, what is EMET?

Microsoft Enhanced Mitigation that prevents attacks.  I use it in Windows 7 and 8 quite successfully.
