Microsoft Updates for Windows 2016 server

Hello,

We just setup our first Windows 2016 server and it is not a domain joined server.

We want the server to pull the Windows Updates directly from Microsoft.  We have setup the active update hours but for some reason, we are not seeing update is happening after waiting for a long time.

There is no antivirus software installed.

Please advise how this should be proper configured.

Thanks in advance.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Initial updates can be very large. Do you have ample bandwidth?

To configure update settings, use sconfig from the command prompt.

You must be using a proxy server. Put this into a command line with your current proxy server name.  Then retry Windows Updates.

netsh winhttp set proxy proxy.mydomain.com:8080

Windows Server 2016 seems to have changed the way it receives updates as compared to Windows Server 2012. In my experience Windows 2016 seems to have this issue with anything to do with proxies.

Sorry guys.  I though the issue was related to some firewall issue but it is not.

I am still having issue to download the updates.
