I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Have you recently moved a VM to another location like local storage or another datastore? Also, you might want to hide your IP address in the question.

Edit: You could also try restarting management agents from the VMware ESXI or reboot the VMware host.

Thanks, it was suggested to restart the management agents and reboot the host if required. Is there a recommended process to follow to determine exactly what the issue is? Can we test by trying to TELNET using port 902 as suggested?

First it would be best to see which VMs are causing the issue, by watching the error message time and seeing which VMs are replicating on an hourly basis.

Edit: It would be something on datastore-277.

10 Tips to Protect Your Business from Ransomware

Did you know that ransomware is the most widespread, destructive malware in the world today? It accounts for 39% of all security breaches, with ransomware gangsters projected to make $11.5B in profits from online extortion by 2019.

I believe we have isolated the affected VMs in question, we worked with Veeam Tech support and were told that the issue was related to the VMs not listening on port 902. I believe that this port is used as a connection back as per below...

Product        Port     Protocol       Source                                    Target          Purpose
ESXi 6.x         902      TCP/UDP      VMware vCenter  Agent      ESXi Host     vCenter Server agent

Is there a way to determine if the VMs are listening on port 902 correctly? I ran "netstat -s" and was not able to see port 902 listed as listening as I thought that it might be?

Thanks for your time and assistance with this? I am jumping into an pre-existing issue and I am trying to understand what caused this issue as well as the fix.

netstat -a

sorry....

Could you try C:\netstat -bano from a command prompt and scroll up until you see port 902 (if it exists) and note the status?

Edit: Run cmd as admin. You might need to use C:\netstat -bano | more if your output is cut off on the top. Then hold down the enter key to see the next lines.
