Printer driver keeps asking for install

I have installed a brand new Server 2016, printers are being deployed by GPO. The first weeks everything was working fine until users reported that their printer keeps asking to install the driver while they are trying to print.

Currently the issue is on Windows 7 64 bit machines. The printer is a HP Enterprise M553.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If the driver is not included in the OS, while the printer pushed via GPO will be listed, it will lack the driver.
Create a computer GPO that deploys the same printer based on the computer. This will install the driver when needed and will work for the user.

Users commonly do not have rights to add drivers, install software.
Hp is often included in the OS, though newer printers are not included, .

Pushing printers to computers will install the requisite drivers..

Look at pushprinterconnection.exe that is part of the Windows server, if you have a mix of 32 and 64 bit systems, use the 32 bit version.
You would add the printer deployment from the print server based on COMPUTER distribution/assignment versus based on user. For the. Purpose of deploying printer drivers, a user based printer deployment can not install drivers.

Look at deploying printer using Windows server print server
