I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

Is this virtual environment? What events do you have in a Windows System and Application EventLogs from the time reported above?

Would you mind to paste contents of a file: k:\sorana1\admin\sorana1\bdump\sorana1_lgwr_25960.trc?

Regards,
Daniel

Sampled Session History of session 166 serial 1
    ---------------------------------------------------
The sampled session history is constructed by sampling
the target session every 1 second. The sampling process
captures at each sample if the session is in a non-idle wait,
an idle wait, or not in a wait. If the session is in a
non-idle wait then one interval is shown for all the samples
the session was in the same non-idle wait. If the
session is in an idle wait or not in a wait for
consecutive samples then one interval is shown for all
the consecutive samples. Though we display these consecutive
samples  in a single interval the session may NOT be continuously
idle or not in a wait (the sampling process does not know).

The history is displayed in reverse chronological order.

sample interval: 1 sec, max history 120 sec

Undoubtly, your files are ok, database will not open eitherways.
It seems it's not a VM environment, right? Do you have any OS side backups running during this time (Networker, Veritas, etc...)?
I think some tool is interfering your database IO operations or you have faulty hardware/driver.
Whats in the Windows System and Application EventLogs?

You're in VMWare virtual environment. I see logs from TSM, it's performing vss backups - as far as I understand its name. Please verify under TSM and disable backup of Oracle and its drives/folders. It may be a part of system state backup, look at the dsm.opt file and add line:
exclude.dir *:/k*

In case it won't work Oracle published solution for O/S-Error: (OS 1784) under VMWare in Doc ID 412481.1. They suggest to disable Legato Sync Driver.
Following is a procedure to disable it:

Disable the Legato Sync Driver option on the VMware server, i.e. in Device Manager:

Select View | Show hidden devices
Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers
Right click on Sync Driver and select Disable from the context menu
Click Yes to disable the device
Click Yes to restart the computer

Yes. Disable TSM backups has been a good workaround and the problem it is not happening now.
Regarding the Oracle Note about Legato, well LEGATO software is not running but it could be another disk driver.

Regards and thanks for your help.
