Discussion of cell phones bought USA used Asia.

We've talked abutt his before. I got a Kata phone on Amazon and it is unlocked. Still not used though I traveled. I assume it will work.

So now looking on amazon for another low cost touch screen phone.
I see X brand dual sim, US unlocked.
I see X brand dual sim, international unlocked.

They do not explain US or International as to whether a US phone can be used in Asia or no it can not be used there.

I've thought to buy another Kata as a gift for someone.
They told me that they are not real strong on phones and features. Make and receive calls is their priority with a simple Nokia phone, no camera.

So the git does not have to be some extravagant phone since they said my Kata was far better than theirs.

I see a brand called BLU and I see some very unknown brands. A BLU seller on Ebay had sold 178 of them and had more. In 30 days 393 positive feedbacks and 15 negatives. Most negatives said phone did not work overseas or it was stated as new and was a used phone.

This is their phone and they are not a phone features person. So there are several phones under $50 on Amazon but this US - international creates questions.
As well as the veeeery unknown brands. I see BLU everywhere.

When buying a phone, and wanting to use somewhere else, check compatibility. Sometimes, it's quite hard (need to know the partner provider abroad). You need to know which bands are used.
Usually if your phone supports all 4 bands, it's compatible no matter where you are (850/900/1,800/1,900 MHz)

Here are the choices and really the only choices will be Mobifone, Viettel, and Vinafone.

There are recently 3 main mobile network providers in Vietnam, which are Mobifone, Viettel, Vinafone. There are two popular technologies which are GSM with 900/1800MHZ frequencies, used by all three. Last year, the Ministry of Information and Communication granted 3 network -MobiFone, VinaFone, Viettel  – to provide the high-speed 3G network.
Among those networks, Viettel has the biggest number of clients, followed by MobiFone and VinaFone. However, according to a survey conducted on 3200 mobile phone subscribers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, MobiFone has been known to provide the best quality service. It was rated 3.92 out of 5  by pre-paid subscribers and 3.95 out of 5 by post-paid subscribers. Meanwhile, Viettel ranks the second with ratings of 3.85 and 3.88 , respectively. VinaPhone ranks the third with 3.83 and 3.72, respectively.

So you found out the frequencies. Now just buy a phone that supports these.

Do not buy BLU.

BLU injected malware in firmware of BLU smartphones and users cannot remove the malware.

Technically, there is no such locking for 3G phone. Locking is for 4G smartphones.

Do not rely just on Amazon reviews. Just buy the same phone is OK if the end users are happy.

Besides, as per our previous discussion, the price on Amazon is really on high end and you might need to make efforts to look for a deal on November 23.

Nokia 5230 is not an Android phone and it is a bit outdated (a Symbiam OS phone which was launched in year 2010).

Is it usable for the end user?

If the user needs WhatsApp, do not buy it as Symbiam OS is no longer a supported platform for WhatsApp.

I'm asking them about WhatsApp but they do not have a phone capable of using it now.

The only feature I did not see with the phone was no dual sim. I've also seen mini sim and avoiding that.

And my KATA phone is likely years old though bought new Dec. 2016.

The above suggestion is just my finding based on your requirements and it is not my recommendation as I would prefer to buying second hand flagship model smartphones which has 4G LTE than no brand new smartphones which has no 4G LTE.

Anyway, the above is ok for entry level users.

Sorry. I was not free in the weekend to give you a reply.

From my opinion, your purchase is generic as it is based on price. For a low end smartphone, brand is not a deciding factor as they are all outdated and it would not be feasible for me to study the brands which mean nothing for me. KATA is a brand I have never heard of also.

Just go with anyone which shall fit into your budget and requirements. Only stay away from those who have a security issue from the news.

If you want me to do an extensive reviews on all brands, such question is beyond the scope of asking questions and I am afraid no experts will or can give you an answer as technology will change and there is no practical use for a purchase which is only based on price.

I do not know every brand for smartphone and those brands I have studied before are as follows:-

Apple (529)
Asus (56)
BlackBerry (230)
Google (31)
HTC (262)
Huawei (139)
LG (412)
Meizu (20)
Microsoft (15)
Motorola (271)
Nokia (328)
OnePlus (29)
OPPO Digital (15)
Samsung (1,043)
Sony (216)
Sony Ericsson (42)

If you want me to do a review among all brands above, I can do it only if you create a Gig project.
