This file was created when a Mac mini failed to start (stalled progress bar, no opening screen) with Time Machine HD connected. I connected this HD to another Mac to view folders.

I was concerned that would be true, however, I do have an Acronis 2013 full backup a couple of weeks older, but hopefully usable. I assume I can extract individual files to a different Mac mini - yes?

A long shot, but I booted in recovery mode & back in business where I left off. Well done Apple!
