Can one vSphere host see a datastore on another host?

Hi,

Is it possible to configure a datastore in vSphere 6.0 Essentials so it can be seen and accessed directly from a second host on the same LAN?  I thought that was possible years ago when I took the class but now I can't find it in the training guides.

Thanks!

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You would need shared storage. eg SAN, NAS, or vSan.

With a SAN or NAS, you would present the storage to the host via ISCSi or NFS. With VSAN, you use the local disks on each host to setup a virtual SAN.

Ok, thanks.  All I have on these hosts are DAS raid arrays.  Will go a different route then for what I need to do.

Much appreciated!
