HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11 Notebook PC Not Starting UP

Hi, I have a Notbook - HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11, not starting up.  When I press the power button ON, the green light comes up, but the screen is blank. I tried pressing f11 to go system recovery, but no luck.

How do I resolve this issue.

Many thanks.

Regards

Shut down (power off).  Start up. Now when you start up, press Shift and F8.  You may need to press this combination 2 or 3 times. Does this get you into Safe Mode?  And does it start this way?

You could possibly have an SSD failure based on your post.

You've got external monitor ports.  Plug an external monitor into one of those connections and reboot.  See what appears on the external monitor.

Hi all,
Thank for your advice so far.
I tried Pressing the F8, also tried it viewing with the external monitor, still no luck.

It however, goes to the BIOS setup and displays it on the screen, so the monitor is fine.
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
So monitor is fine and BIOS loads but you cannot load or recover the operating system, so it work appear the drive may have a hardware problem. See if you can get a bootable USB drive check tool from HP Support to test the drive.

Yep, as John says it looks like a drive problem.

Don't believe you have a DVD drive so as John suggests you'll need a bootable USB stick or drive and media (to boot from) to test the system out.

I have managed to load up the diagnostic tests after pressing F2.  After running the diagnostic test I received the following message for the hard drive:
Testing Drive: 1
Hard Drive Smart Check: PASSED
Hard Drive Short DST Check: FAILED

Does this failure mean that there is an physical damage of file corruption?  What I am concerned at this stage is the valuable date on the hard drive which unfortunately has not been backed up.  The tablet belongs to my niece.
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
The short test indicates a drive failure (I have seen that). There is not much you can do without a recovery company

Can I connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC and try copying /recovering the files? Would this work?
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
It might so long as the adapter matches the drive and then all you can do is try. Is it a Hard Drive or SSD?

Yep.  You can try that.  Don't know how well that would work though.  The drive isn't booting which isn't a good sign.

It's HDD
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
You can try reading it but errors may prevent recovery.

for HDD's  - if you have trouble getting the data, i use HDDRegenerator (NOT FREE) it has saved many drives for me
you can download it and run it for free - it will fix the first bad sector. if it does - buy it and let it run

Expert diagnosed bad hard disk which later testing showed is the problem.
