asked on Dell r710 Controller PERC 6/i
I need help to update only this firmware for Controller PERC 6/I on my Dell R710. This is an esxi 6.0 u3. I access it through "Server Administrator". Please advise easy way to deploy update, which one I need to download form the link.

This server does not have windows installed. It is an esxi server "VMware host". is that ok to used that file?
Do you have iDRAC on this server? You can use it to update firmwares/BIOS etc. Simply download windows version of update package and flash it from within IDRAC console. It might be necessary to update iDRAC firmware to more recent version @ first. But you do it from iDRAC console as well.

Forget it about iDRAC. This server is too old. I need to install the firmware version the server is asking.

The fan on this server is spinning fast and it is being loud.
Not too old. If not ordered with a higher version, it has the iDRAC Express which can utilize LCC to update firmware.
If you want a more traditional way of updating it, then download SBUU/SUU (boot to SBUU, insert SUU as repository) or use Repository Manager to create a bootable ISO.

You can download the last file, but this will create disk folder. You must create some DOS based boot CD or Flash drive, copy over files then boot server and run Update.Bat
