Promote backup Domain controller to primary

We have a Server 2008 server and just purchased and setup a 2016 server.  The 2008 machine is our Domain Controller.  We setup the 2016 server as the backup domain controller and transferred DNS over and have DHCP backed up and ready to install on the 2016 machine.

I was told I have to decomission the old server by removing it from the domain per these instructions:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/library/cc771844(v=ws.10).aspx

After I do this, is there anything specific I need to do to the new server for it to take over?  Will it automatically take over or is there somewhere I have to "make it primary controller".

Just feel like I'm missing something and we're trying to do this asap.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Thank you Olgierd!  That's exactly what I was missing and I couldn't remember what it was.  I did that and now ready to demote the old server.  Thanks so much for your help once again!
