I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes, you can create a new Google calendar and have more than one.

Similar kind of process to Outlook Calendars (which I use)

Yes "You can make the calendar public to everybody, but you don’t have to — just enter the e-mail addresses of the people you do want to view the calendar. "

See: https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/37082?hl=en

Quote:

Share your main calendar with someone so they can see your schedule.

OR

Create a new calendar that multiple people can edit, like a "Family" calendar that everyone in your family can add events to.

The article goes on to say how to remove sharing.
