You will have to configure your Outlook.com email as a imap account in your Windows Live Mail and move or copy your email to your new email outlook.com email. By this way you will have your data in the cloud and you will able access them by web interface on Outlook.com.

  • Keep your Windows Live Mail working
  • Export emails in WLM format to PST file format. (should leave your Windows Live Mail intact)
  • Now try to import PST files into your Outlook account in the system

I think my question wasn't particularly accurate because I didn't really need to migrate anything as the email account was a hosted IMAP account for which I was able to obtain the IMAP and SMTP server details. I attempted to configure Outlook.com but didn't find it very friendly to I reverted to using emClient with a single free user licence. Once emClient was installed and configured, all the user's email was syncronised with the laptop.
