Perc S300 Driver for Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi there,

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 with a Perc S300 card in it and I need to upgrade the driver on it.  I am trying to install this one, SAS-RAID_Firmware_RPCKX_WN32_2.0.0-016600193000_A06, but I get a prompt saying that "The Update Package is running on an unsupported new operating system.  Do you want to continue?"  I'm afraid to install the drive as this server has a lot of important shares on it.  Can anyone confirm that I can go ahead and install it?

Thanks,
Christian

That is a firmware update package, not a driver. You get the message because the S300 is not supported on Server 2012 and later. Probably safe to go ahead and run it. Your alternative is update it offline (or leave it at the current version). BIOS/ESM/iDRAC should be updated before the RAID firmware.

Thanks PowerEdgeTech!  I have already upgraded the BIOS and iDrac, what is ESM?  I would like to upgrade it because every time we restart the server, iDract sends us an email that there is a problem with the storage controller, which turns out to be the firmware version.  Do you see any problems with me installing the firmware?

No, it's probably safe to run the update. I would run it, if it were my server, however, I would never be using an S-series controller.

ESM is the same as the BMC and the more powerful version on current systems is the iDRAC. You didn't say which system you had.

Ok thanks!  It's a PowerEdge R410.  This was a rebuild as it originally had Windows Server 2008 R2.  That's why the S controller is still in it.  Ok, I'll run it and see!!

Thank you, it worked! :)  If I create another question, are you able to help me with the firmware upgrade for a PowerVault MD3260?  That's the next big one I need to do and I don't want to screw that one up!

Thanks again,
- Christian

I haven't used many PV's, but it is typically the same process. I'd post it here and maybe over at the PV forum at Dell.com.
