Office 365 \proplus 2016 install best practice

Will installing 365 really wipe out all other versions of Office?

We're running training as part of rollout of Office365 do we need to install Office 2016 proplus over the existing copy of Office or can we can uninstall older versions of Office reboot and install Office 2016. We have windows and mac users.

Will we lose contacts , auto complete etc (as far as I know there are no nicknames in Office 2016)

No particular link but people here have issues with multiple versions, and I have read at Microsoft that one version is best practice.

Stuff maintained in registry is by observation and reading over time

Installing Office 2016 will not wipe out old installs so uninstall old versions first, restart, and install the newest version. Just keep one. Email and contacts are not wiped out, and some settings get retained in the registry.

Do a test install before rolling out
