Count Formula_4

hi experts, I'm wanting to count only the cells withing a range that have a "D" as part of the cell value, ie
                   2D
                    Y
                    N
                    5D
                      Y
x 2 (this is where the formula is to be entered and = sum of the column range above which = 2 because there are only   2 cell values with "D" contained within them)

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

try use CountIf function like this:

=COUNTIF(A2:A15,"*D*")

where A2:A15 is your cell range.
