Does Cisco's Jabber Client Only Work With Cisco Expressway?

Of can it work by attaching directly to CUCM as well? I think it's only with Expressway but way to check. Thank you.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you are inside the network or use VPN, you don't have to have Expressways. Expressways are for MRA, Federation, etc.

OK Thank you. So to confirm - jabber client can connect directly to a CUCM server just like CIPC. Correct?

Yes but you will need IM&P as well.

Big Business Goals? Which KPIs Will Help You

The most successful MSPs rely on metrics – known as key performance indicators (KPIs) – for making informed decisions that help their businesses thrive, rather than just survive. This eBook provides an overview of the most important KPIs used by top MSPs.

You may be able to use the jabber softphone without IM&P, configuring a CSF device but I've never attempted that. I've always used CIPC if the only purpose was for a softphone. Is IM&P deployed?

I'm not familiar with that term IM&P. ?  We have CIPC deployed and the client was distressed to see it had gone end of support. Jabber is listed in the EOL announcement as the replacement product but I'm unclear of the dependencies. At another company we used jabber client but we had Expressway.

IM&P is IM and Presence formerly known as CUPS. CIPC still works on version 11.5, although maybe isn't supported fully.

There are limitations with using a CSF vs. CIPC, line appearances, shared lines, etc.

You also have to edit a jabber-config.xml file to allow hunt group login/logout as well as call pickup and other options. They are not enabled by default.

This group of users just receives calls from a call distribution center. So given that - can they just put in the address of the CUCM and assuming it's been configured, register? But good to know the features can be edited if needed.

Do you currently have jabber deployed?
0
amigan_99Network EngineerAuthor Commented:
We currently have CIPC deployed. I noticed it was EOL and EOSupport.  10.5.2.1 CUCM is currently running.

Do you know how to tell if they're licensed for IM&P?

buckethead34Commented:
IM&P is free for everyone, may have to work with licensing. But it is free other than deployment costs. And that they have room on their BE6Ks, assuming they are BE6Ks
