I see I could save a bundle on a hybrid 1T drive over a straight SSD.

Dos this fit into a 15" MacBook?

No this won't fit because it's a 3.5inch drive and you need a 2.5inch drive.

SSHDs are definitely faster than HDDs. It all depends on your use, but they are no replacement for SSDs if you need raw performance.
