A good link for some information on this.

You may also try to backup a specific folder .pst file and send that to them so they can retrieve it in some manner if the size is too big. Depending on your email handling, some like Gmail etc. limit the size to transmission so you may have to do it in batches unless you have access to a FTP you can send to and retrieve from. A Drop box would also be a alternative to this.

Once they have the .PST file, they can load it into their email client to offline load those emails.

i'm getting an error message that says my outlook data file .pst is not an outlook data file .pst
how can i fix it?
FOXActive Directory/Exchange EngineerCommented:

Redo the .pst save
In outlook 2016
1. File>Open & Export>Import/Export>Export to a file>select Outlook Data File>select folder to be backed up>select back up location.

If you believe you already successfully created a good .pst you can use scanpst to fix corruption.

The location of a scanpst.exe tool based on different Outlook versions are as follows:
Outlook 2016
For Click-to-Run installation on a 64-bit version of Windows: <C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16
For Click-to-Run installation on a 32-bit version of Windows: <C:Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16
For MSI-based installation on a 64-bit version of Windows: <C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16
For MSI-based installation on a 32-bit version of Windows: <C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16
