What cryptocurrency and wallet is this?

So a friend was bragging to me about his "bitcoin balance" and showed me a screenshot

Before I tell him "that's not bitcoin" i'd like to know what it is.. I don't recognize the symbol

he has 8M of whatever this is, and math says it's valued at $0.01 each - what's the deal?

it doesn't look like a bitcoin wallet either

the screenshot was from 5 November 2017 if it helps trace it by coin value

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

8K Bitcoins is worth a lot of money at todays rate 129,830,716
8K bitdowns nov 5th was worth 56,336,000

I couldn't find a digital currency that was worth approx 15 USD on November 5th, and the symbol doesn't match any of the major bitcoin currencies

Thanks for the reply... whatever coin this is there are 8,000,000 not 8K... changes the math a little...  I think it has something to do with airbitz - at least the wallet...

That app is Airbitz and the unit is a bit. I installed app and it says 1000 of those is one BTC
See below. Feel free to send some BTC to this address, nudge-nudge, wink-wink :)

So he's holding bitz and not bitcoin hmmm.  Wonder how closely they are tied.  If btc goes to the moon is it possible he's going to miss the ride?

Good answer, good to know

A bit is still bitcoin so is a Satoshi. These are just a different denominations of a Bitcoin
