How can I design a database with Shops categories?

Hi all!

I would like to design a database of all the shops I know.

For this reason I'd need to divide those by category.

How can I do it in an efficient and easily customizable way?

Is it sufficient to create a shops and a categories table or I need more (e.g. shops / categories / types) in order to put, for example, all car related shops in the same macrocategory but also be able do differentiate between a mechanic and a car stereo expert?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I'd take a look at how WooCommerce + Magento organize their data tables, as a starting point for your design.

Likely all the years of development on both have created a fairly flexible table column layout.
