Office 365

An architectural practice are migrating to Office 365. They want to upload the historic folders for a few hundred previous jobs (135GB) into their Outlook "public folders".

The limit appears to be around 50GB on the E3 programme.

What is the best practice to set up realistic "Public Folders" in this instance?

Many thanks.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I would turn on Outlook Archiving, upload the oldest, archive them, then the next oldest, archive them, and so on leaving the newest group in the Active public folders. Archive are always available to see / open.

That's the limit for a PF mailbox, not the total storage for all Public folders in O365. Which is 50TB, well above your needs. Refer to:

Apologies for the daly in responding - was stuck abroad...

I thought it was GB, not TB?

See:, section "Storage limits across Office 365 options"

Yes, but there is a difference between Public folders *mailbox* and Public folder. If you check the notes under the table:

In Exchange Online, you are limited to 1000 public folder mailboxes, and the maximum total size of all public folder mailboxes is 50 TB.
