"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If it is in the form of a .deb file, then...

sudo dpkg -i printerdriver.deb

Are the OS and driver both 64bit?

I see the OS is and I "think" (dangerous word)  the drivers are.

Yeah, the i386 means you're trying to use 32bit drivers on a 64 bit OS and I think that is the reason for the error.

I'm not sure there is a way around that. You can run 32bit programs on 64 bit Ubuntu but I've never tried 32 bit drivers on a  64bit OS.

To setup your system for 32bit support you're going to have to install the necessary 32bit libraries these drivers depend on.

awhile back, it worked and then i changed to windows for a brief time.  i came back to ubuntu and i realize now i should have written it down.  i'll try for a bit longer.  i never switched to 32 bit before.
