not a good idea to alter an id; if you need a field representing an order number, do it in a separate calculated field or use a variable if it is only for display. if you change the id, think that everytime a record will be deleted, all younger records will have to be renumbered; acceptable for 10k records, not for 1M, too slow. On top all related records on other tables will loose their relationship or have to be renumbered as well? not useable.

Hello. I built a database using FileMaker. In my table, each record has an automatically generated ID number (specific field): 1,2,3,4 5, etc....<br />
When I delete a record, this field is not automatically renumbered. For example, if I delete record #3, my table will contain 1,2,4,5.<br />
