how can a firmware update be carried out on an iPhone 5S?

Hello and Good Morning Everyone,

From a previously closed post, I was advised to carry out a firmware update as part of some troubleshooting strategies to resolve disconnection issues with an iPhone 5S.  Seeing that I am unsure with respect to what this exactly means, I am even more confused about the steps for achieving this goal.  Given my openness here, I am wondering if someone could briefly explain in simple terms what firmware update means in addition to providing step by step procedures for carrying it out.

Any review and attention given in response to this post will be greatly appreciated.

              Thank you.

Hello and Good Afternoon John,

Thank you for your followup suggestions.  With respect to the IOS updates via iTunes, could you provide the step by step procedures for accomplishing this goal?   It sounds like this might work.  Oh, just one more thing, will the firmware update jeopardize the integrity of the store data?

Thanks Mark for your input.  I will try out the firmware update once I get a better understanding of the logistics for accomplishing this goal.

Hello and Good Morning Everyone,

I am very pleased to say this issue is now resolved at the conclusion of carrying out an IOS update.  At first, this was a bit tricky because the disconnections were either causing download or installation OS failures.  However, we finally got the download and installation to fully go through.  Now, the iPhone 5S is working great.

On a side note, I will not be posting any more questions to EE until the new year rolls around.  I will be using this time in preparation of holiday time with my family.  I do not want to close those by not giving a sincere thank you for all of you who have helped me throughout another year.  You guys are the best at what you know and what you do.  As such, I am always grateful for your shared insights and suggestions.

Wishing everyone all the best for the upcoming holiday season :-)
