Failed to start VIrtual Machine. I installed Hyper-V role on Win 2016 server in Azure. how to resolve this error.

I am getting this error "Failed to start Virtual Machine".

I installed Hyper-V role on Win 2016 server in Azure. Rebooted twice.

Why is it failing to start the VM? Brand new VM in Azure. AM I missing smth? Have you configured Hyper-V client on Windows Server in Azure and able to start Virtual Machines?

thank you so much!

What Azure size is the VM?
creative555Author Commented:
A3 size. I just increased it. It has 7GB of RAM

Still not able to start the VM. Error in the log.

The virtual machine bus is not running.

I compared the Hyper-V services that are running with my other machine where I am able to start VM and all of them are running. See the screehshot of the machine with the issue

Nested virtualization is only supported on Dv3 and Ev3 plans. Which is what you need. It's a technical block.

I just want a regular Hyper-V manager. I dont need nested or anything. I want the same that I have on my local Windows 10 but in Azure. So I won't be able to do it with the regular A3 standard plan? How about if I choose Windows 10 Host machine in Azure instead? I have an vhd Win 10 image. Will I be able to use A3 size and start the VM?

Check out my screenshot with the VM sizes. Where is this DV3 and EV3 plan? How do I choose it?

Thank you so much!

When you create a machine in azure, it is a virtual machine. As reference, look at the top of your "sizes" screenshot.  "Home > Virtual Machine > Dev03"  ...its a VM.

Then you are taking that VM, installing Hyper-V and creating a virtual machine within that virtual machine. A VM within a VM is...nested.  Thus nested virtualization.  And that isn't supported on the size VM you have selected.

You at have to create a new azure VM. There are limits about switching from one class of VM to another, and you may not be able to convert the existing VM to a Dv3 or Ev3 type.

If you're looking for a management system then install RSAT on Windows 10 or install the required management tools on a Windows Server VM.

In Azure, there is no ability to manage the hypervisor host only the VMs running within the virtual network.

Once I made new VM with   Ev3 size, I can run Hyper-V now. Thank you so much!!
