Veeam error being caused by Application-aware image processing

Hi, an Exchange server, has fairly low space and the problem was due to the transaction logs becoming very large in file size. We have attempted to reduce the size by having Veeam mange the logs with the application-aware image processing option enabled in the job. The Veeam backup completes without issue for all our VM's except the server running Exchange. Error logs below. Can take it up with Veeam support, but wondering if anyone had any ideas? To clarify. The Exchange server backs up with when the application-aware option is disabled.

If the backup process is retried, the error may not reoccur. --tr:Failed to verify writers state. --tr:Failed to create VSS snapshot. --tr:Failed to perform pre-backup tasks.
Make sure VM does not have 'iSCSI Software Target Storage Provider' feature installed.

This seems to be a common issue with Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 at present, and many EE Members have been disabling application-aware image processing option enabled in the job.

e.g. not quiesce the VM and have a crash consistent backup.

VMs with High I/O e.g. high transactions have issues with this, on slow datastores.

If you take a manual snapshot with the quiesce ticked do you get the same issue?

Have you tried reducing the job to a single job running on the datastore, e.g. no other backup jobs running, and start the backup during an Exchange quiet time.

Hi,

This could also be an issue with low disk space or an issue with VSS writers on the server.  Have you checked the VSS writer's state using the 'vssadmin list writers' command?

Thanks,
